NORTHWOOD, Iowa – Forming friendships can be difficult for some kids in school, but an area business says something as simple as a spot to sit could help promote social interaction.
The Buddy Bench campaign was launched to help foster friendships and eliminate loneliness on playgrounds across the U.S.
Premier Polysteel, a furniture company in Northwood, manufactures Buddy Benches for local schools.
This year they will be holding a contest for schools in Iowa and Minnesota with the prize being a customized bench.
“Some schools maybe don’t have the funding to buy a Buddy Bench, so this maybe their only opportunity to get one on their school. Some of the schools that have contacted us just have a high poverty rate,” says Corey Coen, Director of Sales and Marketing for Premier Polysteel.
Any school interested in entering the contest has until October 7th to submit an application.
