MASON CITY, Iowa – The Humane Society of North Iowa is honoring employee Rachel Garcia, who is celebrating her 30th anniversary with the organization this week.

Garcia was hired for a part-time position in 1986 to clean kennels and care for animals when the shelter was located on the north end of Mason City. Over the years, she’s been promoted to kennel manager and works full time at the shelter’s South Birch Drive location.

Throughout the years, Garcia has cared for almost 10,000 animals.

“I love taking care of the animals now as much as I did when I first started 30 years ago,” Garcia said in a news release. “Knowing that I’m helping this animals find loving, forever homes is what keeps me going.”

“It’s amazing to think about the number of animals Rachel has helped care for in her time with us,” said Sybil Soukup, executive director of the Humane Society of North Iowa. “Her dedication and love of animals is evident in everything she does. We are so proud and grateful to have such a devoted employee.”
