Building, thousands of hogs destroyed in blaze

CERRO GORDO CO., Iowa – Thousands of hogs have died in a major barn fire.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, at 3:17 a.m. authorities were called to respond to a fire in a hog confinement facility owned by Luscombe Enterprises at 7442 Balsam Avenue in Ventura.  Approximately 250 female hogs, and 2,500 piglets were lost in the fire.  The building was also a total loss.

There is no information yet on what may have caused the blaze.  No injuries were reported.

Fire crews from Ventura, Clear Lake, and Garner responded to the scene.
