MASON CITY, Iowa – After about a week and a half of folks cleaning up after the floods, Monday is the first day residents of Mason City can put their flood-damaged items on the curb for pick-up.
According to the city Sanitation Department, residents can make an appointment with the department to pick up flood-damaged items for free. Folks should not put the damaged items on the curb until an appointment is made, per city ordinance.
Sanitation Supervisor Scott Brattrud says folks can put furniture, carpeting and other household items to be picked up. Appliances, however, will still have the same cost.
“We want to try and get this picked up as quick as we can. It is kind of a biohazard of sorts if it was if it was sewage backup, so we want to get that taken care of soon as possible,” says Brattrud.
The service will be available for residents until Oct. 14.
