MASON CITY, Iowa – Writing a bad check in North Iowa is sending a man to prison.
36-year-old Andrew Lukes was sentenced Monday to two years behind bars and ordered to pay a $625 fine. Lukes pled guilty to 3rd degree theft for buying a car with a $10,000 check on May 26, but that check was written on a closed account. Lukes was arrested after a brief standoff with Mason City police and Cerro Gordo County deputies.
The car was eventually returned to its owner.
