NORTHWOOD, Iowa – Worth Brewing Company received the “Preservation at its Best Award” from Preservation Iowa on Sept. 15.
The business moved across the street to expand its business and took over the old IOOF-Erickson building that was empty.
Worth Brewing Company co-owner Peter Ausenhus said when designing, they made sure to keep the building’s features as original as possible.
“We basically dismantled about 17 to 20 rooms that have been built over the years to kind of bring it back to its original, more open format,” said Ausenhus. “We uncovered the old wood floors, we uncovered the tin ceilings, we saved the old molding, we were able to put up a lot of the original fixtures.”
Ausenhus said getting the new building ready was a yearlong project. He said the doors opened in February.
