CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – Building a home that runs on solar energy is expensive, but one man is looking to do it on a budget.
There’s a home in Clear Lake that is a one-of-a-kind. It will be the nation’s first house powered by solar panels with construction costs at just $200,000. Twenty-four solar panels will power the home, eliminating utility costs with the help of foam insulation.
“I can prove zero. That home to the north has been operating since 2004, zero electric bills on18 solar panels,” Homeowner Gregg Bacon said.
Bacon is hoping to have the house finished by Christmas.
