CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – Hurricane Matthew has already claimed hundreds of lives in Haiti.
Now a North Iowa man is planning to head there to assist with the recovery efforts.
Tom Thul of Clear Lake has been involved in Haiti’s recovery since the 2010 earthquake.
He’s gone on mission trips and worked in orphanages in the country.
He has also worked with other agencies such as GoServe Global, Sukup manufacturing and his church, Zion Lutheran.
Thul says a dental clinic the church built there saved lives when Matthew hit
“After hurricane Matthew came, through the dental clinic served as a shelter for many of the kids in the orphanage and even for some of the people locally there that were in danger during the storm,” says Thul.
Tom plans to join other volunteers heading to Haiti in November to assist with hurricane relief efforts.
