ALBERT LEA, Minn. – A 54-year-old man was rescued by a kayaker after his sailboat overturned Sunday on Fountain Lake.
According to Albert Lea police, first responders were called to help at approximately 6:30 p.m. because a boat had overturned and a man was yelling for help.
In the meantime, Jackie Carstens, of Albert Lea, put the kayak she had been using earlier in the day back into water and paddled out to the man, who had become exhausted while trying to swim back to shore. He was able to hold on to the kayak while Carstens brought him back to shore.
Officers and paramedics treated the man at the shore. He was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea for treatment.
Police say the man was wearing a flotation device when his boat overturned.
Gold Cross Ambulance and Albert Lea Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.
