NORTHWOOD, Iowa- Those on the Northwood City Council agree Highway 65 south of town has a high number of semi-trucks driving through the area near a school bus stop. Councilman Roger Rustad, a truck driver himself, brought forth the idea of purchasing an electronic speed radar to install under the posted speed limit sign. At $3,500 a piece, the council has decided to table the decision to purchase one until more discussion and investigation has been done.
“$3,500 is a lot of money,” says Councilman Dan Reeder. “If we can safe one child, or prevent one potential crash, then the money would be worth it. The trucks are coming so fast at that intersection, and the police department does a great job, but there is just a lot of trucks coming through town.”
Sheriff Jay Langenbau agreed the sign would be a good investment.
