FOREST CITY, Iowa – A Texas man is facing drug charges in Winnebago County.
61-year-old Melvin Lee Sims of Lubbock, TX, was arrested on September 28 after a FedEx driver brought a package to the Forest City Police Department. The driver said he had concerns about the package and a K-9 dog indicated there were drugs inside.
A search warrant was then executed and officers found about 12 grams of methamphetamine in the package, which was resealed and delivered to its destination at the front office of the Forest City Motel. Sims then allegedly took the package into his possession.
A search warrant was executed at one room of the motel and police say Sims consented to a search of the room he was staying in, which allegedly led to the discovery of three glass pipes and one broken glass pipe. Sims also allegedly told officers that both the meth and the pipes were his.
He is charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
