GARNER, Iowa – Off-road utility vehicles may soon be seen on roads in a local community due to a new ordinance.
An ordinance in Garner for all-terrain vehicles and off-road utility vehicles was proposed three months ago.
Late last month, the City Council decided they would consider the ordinance after people for and against it shared their thoughts.
KJ Huenman, president of Heuneman Farms, is a strong advocate for the ordinance because he says the machines are beneficial to his business.
“The goal is all of us that are abiding citizens, we need to be able to use these in the course of our business, but we want to do it legally and that’s our goal here is to get something adopted so that we can use them in a safe manner and legal way.”
The ordinance still has to go through two more readings before the council can take a vote.
They expect to make their decision by Nov. 8.
