1 hurt after Cerro Gordo County crash

CERRO GORDO CO., Iowa – Authorities say a passenger was hurt after a two-car crash at the Highway 65 and B-20 intersection on Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. According to a news release from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Derek Haxton, of Mason City, was headed south on Highway 65 in a 2006 Pontiac G6 when 72-year-old Marianne Krueger, of Greenleaf, Wisconsin, was stopped at the B-20 stop sign facing east in a 2013 Ford Focus. Krueger pulled into the intersection and was struck by Haxton. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage but all occupants were wearing seat belts.

Randolph Krueger, 69, a passenger in Krueger’s car, was transported to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa by Mason City Fire Medics with a minor injury. Marianne Krueger was ticketed for failure to obey a traffic control device.

The crash remains under investigation.
