MASON CITY, Iowa – A new center at a local hospital is finally completed after years of planning that will provide learning experiences for staff members.
Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa held an open house and blessing for their new simulation center.
It is located on the third floor of the cancer center and will allow doctors and surgeons to practice operations before they are called to the operating room to do the real thing.
Those in charge say their goal was to develop the center to help create more learning opportunities for their clinical staff.
“Our family practice, so our family medicine residents can practice delivering a baby, we also have a newborn that has conditions where the heart is not properly functioning,” says Tammy Scwichtenberg, Director of Clinical Practice, Information an Education.
Along with the new simulation center, Mercy also remodeled the medical library and some lab spaces.
