IowaSic looks to cut number of foodborne illnesses throughout state

MASON CITY, Iowa- The Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Department of Inspections are teaming up to cut down on the number of unreported cases of foodborne illness throughout the state. Folks can now call IowaSic (1-844-469-2742) and file a report something those with the Cerro Gordo Count Department of Public Health says will make it much easier to catch cases of food related illness.

“There are literally 10’s of thousands of cases that go unreported each year,” says Brian Hanft, The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health Environmental Service Health Manager. “It has always been known that number of foodborne illnesses have been under reported throughout the state and across the country. People generally don’t know who to call, what to do, and usually use the term “food poisoned” which is a very general term for a host of different illnesses.”

Those looking to file a report or learn more about how to file can follow the link below to the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health’s website.
