ROCHESTER, Minn. – Although we haven’t seen our first snow flakes, some in our area are making sure they are ready when the snow flies.
On Tuesday the city of Rochester hosted a meeting on parking lot and sidewalk maintenance when it comes to dealing with snowstorms. Those in attendance were city workers, many of whom hit the roads after the storm and put down deicer or salt. The presentation talked about the importance of how much you put down and what type of mixture you apply as well. Officials say the problem is when too much salt is applied it goes into waterways and can be toxic to fresh water.
They tell us residents can help the cause by only using the correct amount, more is not always better they say.
