UPDATE: Names released in fatal Winona County head-on semi crash

UPDATE: Two people are dead after a crash involving two semis in Winona County just after noon Tuesday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 47-year-old Michael Kalvig, of Glenville, was eastbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 267 in a 2012 Kenworth semi while 37-year-old Abdulhafiz Hussein, of Roseville, was westbound in a Freightliner semi.

Kalvig reportedly crossed the median in the Kenworth into westbound traffic and crashed head-on with the Freightliner.

The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, Nodine Fire, Dakota Fire and Tri-State Ambulance all assisted on scene.

WINONA CO., Minn. – The Minnesota State Patrol is dealing with a fatal accident involving two semis.

The collision happened around 12:10 p.m. near mile marker 267 of Interstate 90 in Winona County.  Authorities say an eastbound Kenworth semi crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound Freightliner semi.  Both vehicles caught fire and both drivers were reportedly killed.

Nodine Fire, Dakota Fire, the Winona County Sheriff’s Office and Tri-State Ambulance assisted at the scene.
