ROCHESTER, Minn. – It’s one of the busiest highways in the state and during this time of year, there is a lot of red to be seen.
The vines located along the highway and planted on the sound walls are mostly just for looks.
“These were put in and decided on long before anyone was talking about Destination Medical Center, but it gives it more of a little bit of its sort of natural artwork on the sound walls, and that’s kind of within the spirit of some of the things they are talking about with Destination Medical Center,” Mike Dougherty with MnDOT says.
Dougherty tells us the vines were put in about a decade ago when the highway was remodeled. He also says it’s possible, when full, that the vines may reduce even more traffic noise from the road.
