CHARLES CITY, Iowa – They came from Germany to North Iowa and as they go back home, they say they’re taking with them a love for American culture.
Students from Walsrode, Germany, are getting ready to go home. They’re in Charles City as part of the German American Partnership Program with the schools for the past 27 years. They stay in Charles City for three weeks. Come summer, students from Charles City head to Germany. Exchange student Lisa Hargwig says she loved how accepting everyone is.
“I think to be open minded more, here, so many people they get in touch with each other,” Hargwig said.
More than 400 families in Charles City have hosted students from Germany. Saint Ansgar High School joined the program in 2012.
