Body of missing Plainfield woman believed to be found

Cloris Mehman Bremer- EMA

BREMER CO., Iowa – After months of extensive searching, the body of Cloris Mehmen, of Plainfield, is believed to have been found north of Horton about a half mile from her home by a local farmer.

Authorities with the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office say the remains were found around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday near a home at 1477 120th St. by a farmer who was harvesting a cornfield.

Investigation of the scene strongly suggests the remains are those of Mehmen, who went missing July 5, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The remains were found about half mile from her home where she was last seen.

The 76-year-old woman had Alzheimer’s and disappeared early that July morning. Search efforts involved canine tracking; ground, air, drone, water and underwater searches and much more.

An autopsy has been scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.

No foul play is suspected and her family has been notified.
