Plane crash in southern Minnesota

FARIBAULT, Minn. – The pilot was injured Thursday afternoon after an experimental aircraft crashed in Rice County.

The sheriff’s office says 70-year-old Delbert F. Voegele of Morristown took off in his single-engine plane around 1:50 pm, quickly encountered mechanical issues and crashed into a pasture.  The plane sustained what is being described as significant damage and Voegele, who was found outside the aircraft, was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

The plane came down at 22274 Jackson Avenue in Morristown Township.  The Rice County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

Voegele was the sole occupant of the plane, which he owned.
