ALBERT LEA, Minn.- The city of Albert Lea has made it into the latest issue of the National Geographic magazine.
In 2009, the town was the first city across the United States to become certified as a Blue Zone Project City. The organization promotes a healthy lifestyle within the community. They encourage exercising and eating right both at home and in the work place.
Being a Blue Zone city can attract people to the community.
“For me personally I wanted to come here and be a part of it because I thought it was very unique for a rural regional center,” said Adams. “It had traditionally been a more of an agricultural economy and manufacturing economy and for the town to succeed in the project is great. I think we’ve been blessed here.”
They also have recipes that are Blue Zone approved in the magazine. City Hall is offering free copies for anyone in the community.
