Mason City Police investigating shots fired

MASON CITY, Iowa – Less than 24 hours after a man was shot several times in downtown Mason City, police are investigating another shooting.

Mason City police got a call around 6:30 p.m. Sunday that shots were fired near Yes Way gas station on South Federal.  Police searched and found no shells or a victim.  Multiple people report hearing gunfire.  Capt. Mike McKelvey says it’s common to have folks on high alert after a shooting, reminding folks there is no danger to the public.

“Talking to witnesses and everything else pretty much shows these things to be an isolated culmination of events that occurred for certain reasons, not something everybody in Mason City should be concerned about,” McKelvey said.

Mason City has seen two other shootings happen in the last week.  One woman was shot in the arm last Tuesday and was flown to Iowa City.  There are no suspects at this time.
