ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Exercising at any age is important if you want to live a healthy lifestyle, and those at Salem Lutheran Church are encouraging older folks to find a physical activity they enjoy to get them moving.
The Senior Resource Center in Albert Lea is offering a Tai Chi classes at Salem Lutheran Church.
If people over the age of 55 take some time out of their day to exercise, it will increase their chances of staying mobile and it also will lower the risk of heart disease, type II diabetes and depression.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise such as walking or yoga each week, but they also say only one in five adults actually meet those requirements.
“As they age, they have multiple health problems,” said instructor Carol Soma. “Balance is key to both preventing and dealing with those problems. We also work on strength and flexibility and it’s just plain fun.”
They meet twice a week on Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. For more information, you can contact the Senior Resource Center in Albert Lea.
