No selfies at the polls

MASON CITY, Iowa – Secretary of State Paul Pate has asked voters not to take selfies with their ballots.

Iowa state law prohibits the use of cellphones, cameras and other electronic devices inside the voting booths.

Ken Kline, Cerro Gordo County auditor, says they are prepared to make sure Iowans follow the rules and even give them another option to snap photos.

“We will have signs posted at each of the polling places basically alerting voters to the prohibition and we’re suggesting to the precinct officials that they might want to designate an area in the polling place for people to take pictures of themselves,” says Kline.

Currently, there is no law that prohibits photos of absentee ballots.
