MASON CITY, Iowa – According to local experts the rain and humidity slowed harvests this year across our area. At this time, the soybeans are almost all harvested in North Iowa and southern Minnesota. And 50 to 60 percent of the corn crop is out of the ground.
That is behind last year and the five year average, and it’s leading to an uncertain year for harvest.
“It’s going to be a mixed bag it really is,” Cerro Gordo ISU Extension and Outreach Director John Sjolinder said. “Commodity prices are down, if yields are up that might help a little bit.”
He says rain this week and possible rain over the weekend will delay harvest even more.
