KIMT News 3 – Tourism, it’s what drives the community in Clear Lake and the Chamber of Commerce is doing their part each year by helping spread the word.
“Our goal is to attract assist and inspire visitors to come to Clear Lake,” Libbey Patton of the Clear Lake Chamber said.
And it seems to be working as the Chamber’s visitor guide, Destination Clear Lake was recently was awarded for Outstanding Promotional Material by the Iowa Tourism Office.
It seems the community is seeing the results.
“It really shows that we’re on the right track,” Patton said. “We’ve had a lot of growth this year as far as our numbers, visitors in town and people requesting the magazine.”
Just a couple miles down Highway 122 in Mason City, the Historic Park Inn was also recognized for Outstanding Lodging Property, which is based on marketing and growing tourism in the community.
“Last year we had visitors from all 50 states over, 11,000 overnight guests and people from over 50 countries,” HPI Partners President Steve Noto said. “So bringing that kind of culture and visitors into the community has an impact on all the local businesses which we’re pretty proud of.”
And the award is inspiring them to keep growing.
“You know we’re full most nights but we still have a little capacity, so we’re looking to continue to grow and continue to bring people to Mason City and help the community overall,” Noto said.
Patton says they’re working on new ideas for next year’s guide, but believes they’re on the right track.
“We just really feel it kind of validates our efforts to win this prestigious award,” she said.
Clear Lake’s Thursdays on Main event was also the second runner up in the Events category.
