KIMT News 3 – Our 2016 election coverage has us taking a closer look at those running for sheriff in Winnebago County.
Chief Deputy Steve Hepperly is running against current Sheriff Dave Peterson. We talked with them about what makes a perfect leader for sheriff, what changes need to be made, and how they plan to shed a positive light on law enforcement.
“I think the people of Winnebago County are open-minded and fair. I don’t think we have that negative light that the rest of the country seems to have at this time.” Sheriff Peterson said.
“I have a good cord with everybody we work with her from here. Law enforcement are great guys, great people, caring staff, and we just want to do better for our communities,” Hepperly responded.
This is Hepperly’s first time running for sheriff. Peterson has been sheriff for four years.
