Two dead in Butler County crash

CLARKSVILLE, Iowa – Two people are dead after a one-vehicle crash Thursday in Butler County.

The Iowa State Patrol says 44-year-old Matthew Dewitt of Shell Rock was driving east on County Road 33, about a quarter-mile east of Willow Avenue, when his pickup truck drifted off the roadway and into the south ditch, where it smashed into a box culvert.

A passenger, 41-year-old Jeffrey Dewitt of Shell Rock, was killed in the accident.  Another passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Baker of Waverly, was injured and passed away from his wounds Friday morning.    Matthew Dewitt was also hurt in the crash.

This accident, which happened around 7:06 pm Thursday, remains under investigation.  The Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Clarksville police, fire and EMS and Waverly EMS all assisted at the scene.
