Costs of child care on the rise

ROCHESTER, Minn. – It’s an issue many in our area are facing — the rising costs of childcare.

In fact, in southern Minnesota, it could cost as much as $300 a week to have your infant be cared for in a center — compare that to $162 a week for services in a home. Another issue is the fact the number of providers is dropping off as well. In Minnesota, around 3,000 providers left over a 10-year span.

Also, low wages for workers is not helping the situation. In the industry, an average worker gets $10 an hour.
