CHARLES CITY, Iowa – On Halloween, it isn’t just vampires that want your blood. Students at Charles City High School hosted a blood drive this morning.
One student says they’ve been hosting the event for several years, and it happened to fall on the holiday this year. The blood drive used to be part of a class assignment but when that class stopped sponsoring it, students stepped forward to carry on the tradition.
One senior involved in organizing the blood drive says it’s a great way to give back but also teaches students an important lesson.
“It shows how giving blood is important,” senior Madison Davis said. “It carries on throughout their lifetime so kids that are donating realize they need to give blood throughout the rest their life.”
Davis says the goal was to collect about 30 to 40 pints of blood.
