FOREST CITY, Iowa – Authorities say they have uncovered the secret identity of a North Iowa man.
55-year-old Wendell Keith Hunter of Forest City was arrested on October 20, but that allegedly isn’t the name he’s been using since going to work for 3M Corporation in 2014. That name was Daniel H. Hughes.
Hunter is facing charges of identity theft of over $10,000, false use of a birth certificate, two counts of false application for a license or ID card and possession of a firearm as a felon. He’s accused of using false information from a birth certificate and a Pennsylvania voter ID card to pass himself off as Daniel Hughes and use Hughes’ Social Security number.
Authorities say Hunter used his false identity to get the job at 3M, which has paid him over $73,000, and establish a home, obtain utilities, register to vote, get insurance benefits, establish bank accounts and credit cards and get a hunter/fishing license. He also allegedly used his fake identity to sign parental consent forms on behalf of two minors.
When law enforcement searched Hunter’s home at 115 Cresthaven Court, they also claim they found a semi-automatic pistol, a loaded magazine and a box of ammunition. Court records say Wendell Hunter was arrested and convicted of two felonies in Delaware County, Ohio, in 1993.
