MASON CITY, Iowa – He’s not Bullwinkle, but he has become the most popular moose in North Iowa.
“Ralph Moose” has been named the winner of the “People’s Choice” competition in the annual River City Sculptures on Parade. The creation of Martha Pettigrew of Kearney, Nebraska, will be purchased by Mason City for $15,000 and it will become a permanent part of the exhibit through the downtown area.
“This year’s balloting was the closest ever,” says Sculptures on Parade chairperson Robin Anderson. “All 30 sculptures in the competition received votes. It just goes to show that art truly is in the eye of the beholder. We’re thrilled with the response.”
Many of the other sculptures are available for sale or lease. Those not bought or leased will be taken down in April 2017 and returned to the artists or sent to other public art programs.
“Ralph Moose” is on display at the Federal Avenue Plaza and is sponsored by Moorman Clothiers.
