MASON CITY, Iowa – Brent Trout informed those Monday that Phillip Chodur, the man looking to build a Marriott Hotel in downtown Mason City, missed his Oct. 31 deadline.
This could send a rippling effect through the original plans to revamp downtown River City. Councilman Brett Schoneman stresses that he knows nothing more about what’s to happen next than others. He claims either way the downtown is still doing well.
“Like I said before there’s no reason to be negative about it. It’s a waiting period and we agreed to see this out with Mr. Chodur,” Schoneman said.
The River City Renaissance project included a parking ramp in downtown Mason City, the hotel, and an ice arena inside the local mall.
Chodur has 30 days to come up with funding.
