Belmond schools react to officer’s death

BELMOND, Iowa – Communities around Iowa are grieving the loss of two officers Wednesday morning in Des Moines and that includes in Belmond.

Sgt. Anthony Beminio, one of the officers who was killed, has three children that attend the Belmond-Klemme Community School District. Superintendent Abe Maske says he received a call early this morning with the news. At that point a crisis team and local ministers were called in to offer support for both students and staff.

Maske said in these times, you learn more from each other than you do out of a book.

“Education today was not a priority,” he said. “Today was about our students as well as our staff.”

There will continue to be support for the staff and students in the coming days in Belmond.
