ALBERT LEA, Minn.- SMART Transit is receiving quite the honor.

The southern Minnesota company is being named Transit System of the Year by the Minnesota Public Transit Association.

They offer services in Freeborn, Mower, Steele and Waseca counties.

Those with the company say their goal is to provide safe and reliable transportation while being accessible for everybody and this award makes them feel like they are doing just that.

“It’s a big accomplishment and a great award for Cedar Valley and SMART Transit,” said Garry Hart, Division Director. “We appreciate the award that we received and happy that we can represent transit in southern Minnesota.”

They also received a grant for 2017 from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. They’ll use that to add more service hours and drivers on Sundays in some areas.

“I want to make sure we meet the needs of our customers,” said Hart. “We would also like to continue to expand our services. We received some funding for more services in 2017, so we’re going to continue to expand services to continue to meet the needs of our customers.”
