CHARLES CITY, Iowa – Americans across the nation are heading to polling stations to cast their votes for the 2016 election, but one local church is coming together to help focus their attention on prayer.
Local residents and members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City had the opportunity to vote and attend an election prayer service.
“I truly love the Lord with all my heart and soul and I want to do what’s right and it’s so important to vote. I encourage every American to get out and vote because it’s that important,” says attendee Jane True.
Pastor Jim Beranek says the service was about more than politics, it’s a time to refocus our faith on our nation during this time.
“It’s just important for us to come together as God’s people to center our thoughts on the God who is really in charge over everything,” says Beranek.
“Everyone wants the same thing deep down inside. We all want love, peace and tranquility for everyone,” says True.
As the election comes to a close, Pastor Jim says he’s hopeful that the service will allow people to continue to keep their focus on peace for our nation.
“I think just to give them just a place to come, a place of peace, a place where like-minded people can come together and just a time to center their focus and attention upon the Lord.”
Over 30 people were in attendance at the Election Day prayer.
