High school students help at the polls

MASON CITY, Iowa – Local high school students are helping at voting precincts on Election Day.

Mason City High School senior Danielle Dahle worked at the Cerro Gordo County Court House voting precinct on Tuesday.

“In government class, we were actually talking about how we can participate in the government,” said Dahle. “I thought this would be an easy way to do that.”

Dahle said she is helping check in voters, hand out ballots and answer questions. She said it’s neat to see how everything works, so when she eligible to vote one day, the process will go smoothly.

“I’m not a huge fan of politics but I thought it would be cool to see how everything goes around,” said Dahle. “How you go to different places (voting precincts,) so I’ve learned a lot already.”

Dahle said her government teacher helped connect her classmates with the Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office.  She said there was a training process students had to go through to work on Election Day.
