‘Skimming’ found at local banks, customers out thousands of dollars

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Police in Southern Minnesota say they are trying to track down the person responsible for possibly stealing thousands of dollars from resident’s bank accounts.

Rochester Police say they received a report late last month from Premier Bank, located on Greenview Pl SW in Rochester, about one of their ATM devices having what’s called a skimmer on it. We are told these skimmers take a lot of information from your card, and then can use it later to take out funds. Investigators say the device was found right away in the morning and they are not sure if customers were impacted, however First Alliance Credit Union on 16th Street SE says they had a similar issue last month.

First Alliance says they started getting customers complaints stating money had been taken from their accounts. A skimmer was found on an ATM there and police tell us the total loss for customers is at least $17,000 but that could rise.

Authorities stress to be checking your bank accounts.
