MASON CITY, Iowa – One fourth grader at Hoover Elementary in Mason City is making a difference not only at her school, but in the community as well. The idea came from Lila Sheehan whose friend Blair is battling cancer. Lila wanted to help her and other kids, so she started a box last Wednesday where kids at school could donate, hoping to raise $300. One week later, there was over $425 in the box and counting.
Lila says she hopes the other students take away how lucky they are, and continue to support others.
“You should help others,” Sheehan said. “They don’t get to wake up healthy every morning, and right when they wake up they don’t feel safe and relaxed, they have to fight cancer right when they wake up.”
The money will go to the Kids Fight Cancer radio-a-thon in Mason City.
