AUSTIN, Minn. – No charges will be filed against the southern Minnesota police officer who shot a man during an arrest.
26-year-old Edgar Fernando Rodriguez of Austin has entered guilty pleas to 1st degree property damage and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. He was originally charged with 2nd degree assault for an incident on April 20.
After a high speed chase, Rodriguez was stopped at the intersection of 5th Avenue NE and 19th Street NE in Austin. He was accused of ramming the vehicle of Austin Police officer Adam Scott, with Scott then shooting Rodriguez.
Scott was placed on administrative leave after the shooting, which was investigated by the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office. They found it was an authorized use of force and declined to file any charges.
Rodriguez’ sentencing has been scheduled for February 3 in Mower County District Court.
