ELLENDALE, Minn.-  As residents in Ellendale evacuated their homes because of a train derailment, the community is coming together to help one another.

For a good portion of Friday morning, members of the Geneva United Methodist Church were trying to figure out ways to feed those who were evacuated.

The local Hyvee store brought in items like bottled water, chips and donuts for both community members and first responders.

Volunteers say helping those in need is what their church is all about.

“We feel it’s important to meet people’s physical needs as well as their spiritual needs and when the physical needs aren’t met it’s real hard to get to the soul,” said Emily Otto member of the Geneva Methodist Church.

American Red Cross also helped gather food for everyone.
