Blooming Prairie man sentenced for not paying taxes

OWATONNA, Minn. – The male half of a tax cheating couple has been sentenced in Steele County District Court.

44-year-old Michael Ray Tapp of Blooming Prairie received two years of supervised probation Monday for one count of failure to file a tax return.  He was also ordered to pay $46,748 in restitution and perform 40 hours of community service.

Tapp and his wife, Sheridan Jo Tapp, were accused in January of failing to pay sales and income taxes while they owned an Owatonna tanning salon between 2009 and 2012.

Sheridan Tapp previously pled guilty to failure to file a tax return.  She was sentenced to three years of supervised probation, must pay $49,879 in restitution and do 240 hours of community service.
