CALMAR TOWNSHIP, Minn. – Olmsted County investigators say a 59-year-old man died over the weekend after being struck in the head by a tree branch.

Deputies received a call just after 6 p.m. Saturday to the 7300 block of Genoa Road NW, but Raymond Phelps was reportedly dead by the time they got to the scene.

His wife told authorities she went to town around 3 p.m. and thought it was strange when he wasn’t home upon her return. She started looking and eventually found him. It appears that he was cutting a tree he thought was going to fall on the north side, but it got caught on other branches before swinging back to hit him.
