UPDATE: The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the people involved in the fatal accident north of Hayfield.
19-year-old Timothy R. Tlougan of Hayfield was driving a pickup truck north on Highway 56 when he attempted to pass another vehicle and had a head-on collision with the southbound car driven by 66-year-old Severt R. Fiksen of Dodge Center.
Fiksen was killed in the crash. Tlougan suffered a serious injury.

HAYFIELD, Minn. – At least one person is dead after an early morning head-on crash on Highway 56 north of Hayfield.
It happened around 5:37 a.m. near 710th St. According to a Minnesota State Patrol crash report, a 2002 Chevy Silverado was northbound on the highway when the driver tried to pass another vehicle and hit a southbound 2014 Ford Focus head-on. Highway 56 was closed about four hours for clean-up and crash reconstruction.
The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted by Hayfield Fire and Rescue, Hayfield Ambulance, Dodge Center Fire and Rescue, Dodge Center Ambulance, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Gold Cross Ambulance.
