Man airlifted to Mayo after falling into a deep hole

AUSTIN, Minn. – A 60-year-old Austin man appears to have fallen into a pit at the Solid Waste Transfer Station.

According to an official on the scene, they believe the man came to drop off some garbage.  When he was unloading his truck, it seems the tailgate hit his shoulder and knocked him into a 25 foot deep hole.

The identity of the man has not been released but authorities say he was airlifted to Mayo Clinic and is in stable condition.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Austin police and fire and Gold Cross ambulance responded to this incident.
