MASON CITY, Iowa – The Salvation Army is once again gearing up to help families in north central Iowa this holiday season. Over the past two days they’ve been taking applications from families and people in the community for toys as well as food baskets.
One official says they had over 200 families apply on Monday and with a bigger area to cover this year, they’re now serving eight counties, they’re hoping to help as many people as possible.
“It’s a blessing to bring people a brighter Christmas and that they can have toys, kids can have toys on Christmas morning, and they can have food in their stomachs on Christmas to celebrate the season of giving and of love and just having time together with their family,” Mason City Salvation Army Capt. Janelle Cleaveland said.
They will be accepting applications again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
