Sludge dumper pleads guilty


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A Bremer County man is pleading guilty to illegally dumping sewer sludge.

64-year-old Donald James Warnke of Sumner entered a guilty plea Wednesday in Cedar Rapids Federal Court to one count of unlawfully disposing of sewage sludge from a publicly owned treatment plant.  He admitted to dumping sludge from the New Hampton Wastewater Treatment Plant in a field on June 19, 2015.

Warnke faces up to three years in federal prison and a fine of up to $50,000 per day of the violation.  He is free on bond.
