ALBERT LEA, Minn.- The annual Winter Wear Drive has begun. The Noon Kiwanis in Albert Lea is collecting winter clothes.
There are 12 businesses around town that are drop off locations:
Farmers State Bank, Intego Insurance, St. John’s Lutheran Community, Albert Lea Family, Albert Lea CVB, KATE Radio, Freeborn-Mower Coop Services, Home Federal Bank, Edward Jones, Albert Lea- Freeborn County Chamber, Celebrations and Freeborn County Historical Society.
If you are donating, it’s encouraged that the winter clothing items are new or gently used.
“Last year was my first year being involved where we had 10 drop off locations and we collected what it just felt like mountains of clothes,” said Sarah Hensley, Organizer of the Winter Wear Drive. “Everything from little kids hats and mittens to snow mobile suits.”
The clothing items will go to The Attic and Salvation Army. Hensley says these donations will help a lot of people in need.
“The coordinator at The Attic told me that they actually distributed every piece of clothing within three weeks of when she got them from us last year,” said Hensley. “That is how great the need is for these items. It feels awesome to be able to clean out a closet and know that that’s going to help someone in our community.”
