Rochester Mayor makes Friday special to many

ROCHESTER, Minn. – On the heels of the Rochester Public Schools getting rid of Columbus Day and replacing it with Indigenous Peoples’ Day, it seems the city is following suit.

On Wednesday Mayor Ardell Brede made a proclamation that this Friday will in fact be Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the city. A large crowd gathered at city hall to hear what the mayor had to say and there was even some music played during the ceremony. Those in attendance tell us this is something important to keep traditions going and let others know people were here before the settlers.
